Finally, a video where we show you how to cut your own hair! We keep saying you should cut your own hair, but we kept putting out videos of Anthony Morrocco cutting. While these videos are a great way to educate hairdressers and people who want to learn how to cut other people’s hair, we wanted to make sure YOU got the benefits of learning to cut your own hair. Check out the video below, and make sure to follow these tips for the perfect cut using the Blunt Snip Haircutting Technique.

You’ll see the best results following these directions using a pair of hair salon blunt snip scissors. Check our our Blunt Snip Haircutting Kit to get started.

1. Always cut hair wet

It is best that you cut your hair wet. Start cutting after taking a shower, or dampen your hair with the Diamond Crystal Mist. Scissors just cut better on damp hair and the humidity makes your hair more manageable by keeping it together and reducing fly away hair. It’s key to an even cut.

2. Keep feet flat on the floor

Anthony mentioned in another video how the chi flows through the spine and crossing legs cuts it off. I wanted to remind you that this goes for your self cut too! Cut your hair from an even position.

3. Cut little, but cut often

Cut only a minimum amount of hair. Avoid going constantly back to get every, single split end. Take a breath, accept the fact there are a few you left behind, and trim again in a month. Don’t sweat the small stuff.

4. Enlist a friend

Tag team your hair! If your hair is short, chances are that you can’t see the ends in the back. So you may want a partner for some spots. Get someone you trust with scissors near your face to help you with the back of your head. Preferably someone who also needs a trim, so you can help each other. Or grab a mirror!

5. Detangle FIRST

No matter what hair type you have it’s imperative you detangle first, but that goes triple for curlies! Are you curlier than her? Check out Nicole and Anthony’s cut for natural curly hair.
