Morrocco Method in the Community

The same holistic approach we take to developing our product line also guides all our business decisions, including how we choose our suppliers and business partners. We salute one such partner.

Morrocco Method chooses to have their label and packaging needs fulfilled by a local cottage industry rather than a large, impersonal, corporate factory environment. To achieve this goal, we work with OPTIONS, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people with disabilities meets their wants, needs and desires as citizens within their community. Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

In the early 1980s, OPTIONS founder Mike Mamot was working as a Special Education Teacher for the Paso Robles, California School District. His work with special needs students in district schools brought him into contact with young people who were struggling in school because of severe behavior problems and inadequate social skills. As he came to know these young people better, he found that many of them lived in with families that were ill-prepared to deal with the unique challenges presented by their special needs children and were desperately seeking outside assistance. Realizing that San Luis Obispo County lacked adequate residential services, he opened a small group home where these kids could grow, learn and have their individual needs addressed in a caring, supportive environment.

Since that time, OPTIONS has grown considerably. IN 2002, the Mary Lou Steward Learning Center of Lompoc became part of OPTIONS. In 2003, the Santa Maria Independent Living Environment (SMILE), a grass roots organization, also joined forces with OPTIONS.

OPTIONS' growth has been guided by the needs of persons receiving services. Today, over 200 men and women benefit daily from a diverse array of community based services that are designed to meet each individual's choices and needs.

Although the organization that Mike originally founded in 1984 has gone though changes in name and location, its core philosophy has never wavered: By increasing self-reliance, we will improve the quality of life for those we serve.

With a professionally trained staff of over 180 caring individuals, residential, vocational, community integration, and rehabilitation services are being provided throughout San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara Counties.
