Why Natural Does Not Always Mean Holistic

Good nutrition comes as second nature these days. Shoppers concerned about their health look for natural ingredients in products. Organic vitamin and mineral supplements line health food store shelves and gym memberships are on the rise. People know that it not only takes quality nutrition and exercise to be in tip-top shape, but that there needs to be a total and dedicated effort to getting and staying in great shape; a holistic approach.

Feeling good equals looking good. One area that people overlook when it comes to treating with natural products is the one part of the body that is their hair!

Stylists Today

  • Use chemicals to straighten, lighten, darken and wave hair.
  • Wear gloves to protect themselves from the harsh ingredients in hair products
  • Use treatments that strip hair of vital nutrients, leaving it looking lifeless, dry and unhealthy.

The Epiphany

It wasn’t always this way. For centuries only natural products were part of the hair care regimen. In fact, a total holistic approach was the norm as village barbers and tribal Indians in South America cut hair according to the phases of the moon. This little known fact became apparent one day to Anthony Morrocco as he was styling hair in the world famous Kenneth Salon in Manhattan. Anthony counted among his loyal clientele:

  • Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis
  • Georgette Klinger
  • Lauren Bacall
  • Nancy Sinatra
  • Mia Farrow

However, several women who came from south of the equator were the ones who caught his attention.

“I had three Brazilian clients and all of these women had the most incredible hair,” recalls Anthony. “It dawned on me that they were highly particular about which day they would make an appointment. I asked them why and each of them told me about the hair cutting cycles tied to the phases of the moon practiced in the Amazon.”

An idea was born.

After more than thirty years of traveling the globe and intensive research, the  method of the world’s most complete, balanced and effective system of natural hair care for both the maintenance and rejuvenation of hair and scalp care was developed: 5 Elements Hair Care. And it doesn’t stop with the phases of the moon.

The keywords to Anthony’s approach are natural and holistic. “To me,” says Anthony, “the most beautiful thing in the world is a head of natural hair, left alone.”

Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS)

He bases his hair care philosophy on the fact that many popular shampoos, toothpastes, and other personal care products contain a surfactant called Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS).

  • SLS is a harsh foaming agent similar to dish washing soap
  • SLS was traditionally used in industrial factories as an engine degreaser
  • Excessive amounts of SLS can be harmful and evidence indicates they may be carcinogenic.
  • Even products labeled “natural” may contain SLS.
  • Studies show that long term contact with SLS can lead to eye irritations, hair loss and allergic reactions.
  • SLS strips away beneficial bacteria found on the skin and scalp, which is nature’s defense against harmful germs.

Read the ingredient list on hair products—even ones that are labeled as natural—and you may find a list of other common surfactant chemicals in addition to SLS, such as Sodium Laureth Sulfate, DEA, TEA, Laurel Sulfate, Cocamide, and coconut oil. The Morrocco Method condemns the use of these additives.

5 Elements Hair Care

5 Elements Hair Care is a complete line of specialized shampoos and conditioners that result in thicker, more lustrous hair. After research, Anthony has created these products by combining modern scientific knowledge with ancient wisdom coming from the healing arts of Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. Each shampoo and conditioner contains nature’s most potent minerals and naturally grown plants and herbs and is guaranteed to be free from chemicals and synthetic ingredients. They are based on a truly natural, holistic formula. Says Anthony, “They are non-surgical, drug-free and, best of all, affordable.”

The Elements Explained

In the ancient world, medical practitioners believed that five humors, or elements, constituted the essence of every living being. The elements are:

  1. Air
  2.  Fire
  3. Water
  4. Earth
  5. Ether

Good health was based on these elements being in harmony with one another. The ingredients we incorporate in our formulas are the living energy that is responsible for the balancing and rejuvenating effect on the hair, scalp, body, mind, and spirit. Each of the elements—air, fire, water, earth and ether—are represented in the product line by five shampoos and ether is presented in five different conditioners.

Air is distinguished by the ingredient Pine Shale. Fire contains Apple Cider Vinegar. Water brims with Sea Essence, while Earth Essence is unique to earth. The Heavenly Essence is filled with ether. All five of the shampoos share some of the same natural ingredients, which read like a souvenir program from the Botanical Gardens:

  • Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, a natural preservative.
  • Soap bark extract from Chilean Evergreen trees, a natural foaming botanical.
  • Algae, Kelp and Seaweed, which absorb impurities and act as thickening agents.
  • Mineral rich healing clays, which rejuvenate the scalp and restores hair growth.
  • Essential Oils that serve as aromatherapy and have antibacterial properties.

Relating to the ether element as well are five conditioners: Diamond Crystal Mist, Sapphire Volumizer Mist, Pearl Essence Creme Rinse, Floating Lotus, and Euro Oil. The Diamond Crystal Mist and Euro Oil both contain precious Liquefied Crystals from India and Tibet and rare essential oils. These are designed to rejuvenate the scalp, repair the hair and give incredible shine. The Volumizer Mist is used instead of damaging hair sprays, gels or mousses. Its main ingredient, Grapeseed Extract, provides the hair with brilliant body and bounce. The Pearl Essence Creme Rinse is our most moisturizing conditioner.  It is great for deep conditioning.  The Floating Lotus Conditioner is a great wash-out conditioner for use in the shower.

A Synergistic Routine

According to Anthony, no one shampoo or conditioner stands alone in 5 Elements Hair Care. “The basis,” he says, “is synergy. No single product will work alone or effectively with lasting results.”

“It’s necessary to have a system, a method, where a number of factors combine to work together in harmony with each other. This creates a cooperative energy that’s far more powerful than any one factor by itself.”

He cautions that over a period of time, the scalp and hair can become resistant to the same product if used repeatedly and it will stop responding to the healing properties in that one product.

When using the 5 Element Hair Care system, Anthony recommends that for maximum results, the user should alternate all five shampoos, using a different shampoo each time, as well as using the 5 conditioners as needed. Suggest alternating the sprays one each day and the Euro Oil weekly. “This ensures a thorough cleansing and nourishing action,” he maintains.

A Commitment to Health

“I believe that the emphasis on the whole person helps to maintain vitality, health and can actually motivate a natural healing process,” says Anthony. “Why should you leave your hair out of it?” The Morrocco Method incorporates a daily ten-minute regimen of correctly brushing, massaging and shampooing the hair and scalp.

Anthony’s other important factors for healthy hair:

  • proper brushing
  • hair and scalp massage
  • the right diet
  • lifestyle and your spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being

He adds:

“If you commit to this program for ninety days, you can reverse the damaging conditions of hair loss and thinning, and begin to experience lasting and gratifying results.”

True Results

People who have used the Morrocco Method’s 5-Elements Hair Care system have experienced remarkable results. Anthony’s files are full of testimonials from those who have benefited from his treatments. A sample:

“It was the Morrocco Method who gave me the top of my head back. I was losing my hair gradually. It’s amazing how little is understood about natural hair care, even in the medical community. My hair loss has virtually stopped and my scalp is healthier than ever, thanks to this powerful system.” Jacob Niedelman, M.D., San Francisco, CA

“I’ve been using the Morrocco Method for almost two years. In this time, I’ve developed a love affair with my scalp, like one I could have never imagined. I always had a short bob because I thought I could never grow my hair long. I now have long, beautiful, nourished, alive hair.” Ann Gentry, Memphis, TN

The mainstream press has taken note of the Morrocco Method’s 5-Ingredients Hair Care and has featured Anthony and his products in:

  • People Magazine
  • In Style Magazine
  • The Los Angeles Times
  • The Farmer’s Almanac

“A healthy attitude is important for healthy hair,” says Anthony, “but I’ve seen firsthand the devastating, psychological effects of hair damage and loss due to repeated use of chemical hair products. That’s what prompted me to develop 5-Elements Hair Care. It’s taken me over thirty years but the time and effort has been worth it. I want to deliver only the best!”
